Space-saving and cost-efficient alternatives to traditional pallets
Paper / Plastic Slip Sheets
Slip sheets are thin, flat sheets designed to serve as a base for transporting unit loads, offering a lightweight and sustainable alternative to wooden pallets. Equipped with one or more protruding tabs, they allow for the secure handling of goods when used with the appropriate equipment. Commonly made from materials such as heavy laminated kraft paperboard, corrugated fiberboard, or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), slip sheets are increasingly used in modern logistics to improve space efficiency and reduce shipping weight.

Unlike pallets, slip sheets take up minimal space and contribute to substantial cost savings, particularly in transport and storage. Their lightweight nature significantly reduces the overall weight of a shipment, resulting in lower fuel and freight costs. Because they are thin and stackable, slip sheets also maximize the usable space within shipping containers, making them ideal for operations focused on volume optimization.
Paper slip sheets are generally recyclable and offer a sustainable packaging solution. Plastic versions, often made from HDPE, provide enhanced durability and resistance to moisture, making them suitable for environments where hygiene or exposure to liquids is a concern. One of the key advantages of both types is that they are not subject to international phytosanitary regulations, unlike wooden pallets, simplifying export procedures.
To use slip sheets effectively, a specialized forklift attachment called a push-pull device is required. This device features a hydraulic clamp that grips the slip sheet’s tab and pulls the load onto a smooth metal plate, allowing the load to be moved without the need for a traditional pallet. While this requires a specific setup, the operational savings in space, weight, and material can be significant.
